This song has a very long history, eventually seeing legitimate release 33 years after it was first recorded. Brian apparently did a backing track for this song back in 1965 and it was up for consideration as a Glen Campbell single but he recorded "Guess I'm Dumb" instead. He then added vocals in the late 76/early 77 period and the song was in the line-up for the unreleased "New Album" of that period as "Sherry She Needs Me".
Brian finally returned to the song for the Imagination album with new lyrics written by Carole Bayer Sager and the song retitled. The new arrangement has a classic baroque feel to it, with some exquisite instrumental breaks.
